On this project in Tring, we worked closely with the client to create a garden that provides liberal entertaining and lounging spaces, and most importantly, introduced a rich tapestry of planting to enhance the spaces, with the ethos very much being bringing the garden in to the living space as opposed to extending the house out.
To create a garden that facilitates a richer way of life and improves wellbeing - that is the goal with this project in Leighton Buzzard. The poolhouse will allow time in the garden to extend well into the night and provide a hub for entertaining. The natural swimming pond uses planting to filter the water, making the crystal clear water a perfect place for a dip before warming up in the log fired hottub. Minimum energy maximum enjoyment.

As Tierra designs ltd is based in the hilly area of ‘the Chilterns’ most of our enquiries come from this area, predominately Berkhamsted and Tring. One type of garden we have to contend with frequently are those with sloping sites. Quite often we will be faced with a heavily sloping garden with a design brief of wanting as much flat space as possible. To achieve this can be an expensive exercise - with retaining walls, drainage solutions, and boundary reparations. Let’s talk about the problems these gardens bring, just why are sloping sites so difficult? Read this entry in full
Watching how planting styles change within the garden design sector is fascinating, there is a real movement now towards drought tolerant planting schemes. These are not new, zero water planting schemes have been around for millenia but the fact that this style of planting is moving so rapidly into the domestic gardening scene feels a real thing. So how do we plant for the future, and create schemes that will thrive over time? Looking at the wider landscape always gives the answer. Read this entry in full
One of the most common requests we hear from clients is for a low maintenance garden. That’s no surprise given the ever-increasingly busy lives that we lead, meaning that there’s less time or inclination to look after our garden. Quite often a garden has got in such a state that the owner just wants to start from scratch with something that’s doesn’t require too much work. Sometimes that is the answer, but more often than not it’s to do with the way the garden is being maintained rather than the plants and materials. Read this entry in full
So, you may be wondering, what is landscape and garden design all about? Quite simply, it’s the creation and management of an outside space that has a positive effect. You might well ask, what is a positive effect? Well, it’s very difficult to define exactly because one person’s idea of what a good design looks like may be completely different to the next’s. Some people might like to have a highly-formal garden with manicured lawns, topiary and water features, while others may prefer the natural beauty of a wild meadow garden. Read this entry in full
